Tummy Tuck in Jacksonville

Tummy TuckWhether you are male or female, sometimes dieting and exercising are just not enough to take care of your waistline problems. If this is the case, you may wish to consider a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty to remove excess fat and skin, and in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer. Although there are situations where diet and exercise can play a limited, but important, role in the appearance of your abdomen, the only way excess skin, stretch marks and a distorted shape of the abdominal wall can be corrected is with a tummy tuck procedure. Tummy tucks allow plastic surgeons to remove excess skin and fatty deposits from the abdomen area. The cosmetic surgeon can then reposition the abdomen muscles to a much tighter formation.

A tummy tuck enhancement is a cosmetic procedure designed for men and women who wish to have a flatter stomach with less sag. A female tummy tuck is also prescribed as a corrective remedy for the vertical separation of abdomen muscles also known as diastasis. Diastasis often occurs in women following pregnancy.

Dr. Hardy and his team are ready to provide you with information to help with your decision regarding tummy tuck surgery. We understand the many different situations that men and women may face before and after an abdominoplasty.

Tummy TuckGeneral Procedure for a Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty surgery will last anywhere from four to five hours. Depending on the desired look and the patient’s unique physiology. To begin the tummy tuck procedure, an incision is made just above the pubic bone area. This incision goes horizontally across the lower abdomen and sometimes extends around to the back. The skin is then stretched away from the abdominal muscle tissue and excess stomach skin is removed. The abdomen muscle tissue is tightened to provide a firmly contoured stomach and well-defined waistline. Finally, the incision is closed; and the abdominal skin is stitched back into place. Sometimes a tummy tuck (men or women) may require an additional incision around the navel in order to provide the best results.

Recovery from Tummy Tuck Surgery

Post operatively, you will need to remain in a position that is flexed at the hips both when you are in bed and when you are walking. As the body recuperates from tummy tuck surgery, the patient can expect some swelling, pain and discomfort. However, the discomfort from your tummy tuck can be controlled by a pain pump that Dr. Hardy will use to administer your pain medicine during the first 3 days after abdominal surgery. You will also be prescribed an oral pain medication to assure that you experience a minimal amount of discomfort. Usually two small drainage tubes will be inserted immediately after surgery and will remain in place for approximately 7-10 days. Normal activities can generally be resumed within two weeks. It may take up to a year for your body to completely adjust to the new abdominal sculpture. With proper diet and exercise, the striking results from your tummy tuck surgery will be long lasting.
