Cheek augmentation is a plastic surgery procedure that enhances cheeks that are lacking in contours and definition. It is an effective and safe cosmetic enhancement procedure.

Cheek augmentation involves the placement of cheek implants to give a patient’s cheeks a fuller shape and size. This procedure will help treat sagging, flat, and deflated cheeks.

The Consultation

During your cheek augmentation consultation, your plastic surgeon will evaluate your cheeks. You will discuss your beauty goals, and you will be able to see Before and After photos of past cheek augmentation patients. Your plastic surgeon will walk you through the procedure, and a date will be selected for your augmentation procedure.

The cheek implants that we use are solid and very durable. Based on your needs, your plastic surgeon will customize the dimensions of your cheek implants in order to help you achieve your desired appearance.

The Surgical Procedure

The cheek augmentation procedure is performed under general anesthesia. To begin, incisions are made either inside the mouth or under the lower eyelids, depending on the preferences of you and your plastic surgeon. Each option has its benefits and drawbacks.

Through these incisions, small pockets are made in the cheek tissues. The implants are placed in these small pockets. The goal is a snug fit that prevents any sort of implant migration. After the implants are placed, the incisions are closed using medical stitches.

Cheek augmentation can be done along with other plastic surgery procedures in order to provide more comprehensive facial enhancement and create better balance. One of the most popular options is a pairing of this procedure and the facelift. This pairing serves to rejuvenate the skin of the face while creating new youthful volume.

After the Procedure

Your plastic surgeon will give you post-operative instructions before your procedure in order to make sure that you are fully prepared for the healing process. Rest and limited movement are key.

There will be some temporary swelling and bruising after the procedure, but these should go away in less than two weeks. These are both very common side effects.

To aid in controlling these issues, make sure to keep your head elevated during the start of your healing process. You will be wearing bandages after the procedure, which will also help to control swelling, and a cold compress can be held against the region for further help.

Stitches are typically removed after 10 days during a follow-up appointment. If dissolvable stitches were used, these stitches will not need to be removed. After about 10 days, they will disappear on their own.

Your chewing may be impaired in the days following your cheek implant surgery, since your tissues will be recovering. Because of this, a liquid diet should be followed for the first three days after the procedure.
